Jefferson County is 775 square miles of beautiful foothills in the Rocky Mountains. Just west of Denver, the county has a population of 530,000, including 185,000 in unincorporated areas.Jefferson County has a K-12 school district that has 185,000 children enrolled. Most residents are 30 minutes from downtown Denver and 60 minutes from soem of the world's best ski resorts. In addition to 12,000 acres of Denver Mountain Parks, Jefferson County has preserved 55,000 acres of Open Space with 135 miles of trails for hikers, bicycles, equestrians, and nature lovers. Nearly 40% of JeffCo is preserved as city, county, state, and national parks and wildlife habitat. In the central foothills, the Lariat Loop Historic & Scenic Byway enriches living in Greater Golden, the I-70 Corridor, Evergreen, and Bear Creek Canyon.
